Can you believe that Christmas is almost here.. with New Years fast approaching!? With the holidays surrounding me, I have found myself contemplating on what God has planned for me in the coming year. In order to know where I am going, I often find myself looking back on the past to see where I have come from. In the past I look for God moments. Moments in which God was trying to tell me something. Moments in which He hinted for me to say something to a certain person I wouldn't normally talk to, to participate in an activity I didn’t want to, or to do something nice for someone who had been cruel to me. It was in these moments that God was leading me on another path; His path. Instead of following His path, I ignored it either out of fear, self-pride or complete ignorance that there was another path! Instead I followed the path that I thought was best for me. The purpose of me looking back on my past is not only to find out what I missed, but to see in what direction God wanted me to head and how I can change today to become who God wants me to be tomorrow.

I think one of the most important things that I learned this year was all about love. A four letter word, love is a very simple theory yet it confuses a multitude of people. So many other emotions masquerade as love nowadays, that it is difficult to know what true love is. I read this passage from Corinthians and realize that without love, I am nothing. I try so hard to be a good Christian that I forgot what it means to truly love another who I may not like or get along with. I get stuck doing the motions and forget to put my heart into it. And this type of thing is exactly what the Apostle Paul warned me against when he wrote Corinthians, that works without love is fruitless. (Yes, I did just mangle James 2:20.) I think that I have been getting it backwards. I am first supposed to love and then do, not do and then love. Instead of performing works with the hope of making myself feel better, I am called to love and then perform the work. Through learning to love the way God asks of me, I think I will learn what it means to become a Christian in all aspects of the word. I plan on working on this love concept during the new year. = ]

I am slowly realizing, with His help, what His dreams are for me and I am making the decision today to follow them. I want to live for today and love with all of my being. I want to do things that fear constantly drives me away and learn to enjoy doing them. I have decided to make my Bucket List, which is a compilation of things I want to do before I die, and as I complete my dreams on my list I plan to continue to create new dreams. The final thought that I leave you with is how will you use your past to change your future?

New Movie: House by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti

Thank you Lisa for letting me know that a Ted Dekker movie was coming out. I didn't realize that the movie was coming out today, until I saw the ad for it in the newspaper this morning.

When a new Christian movie comes out, I spread the news to my friends and family, but they usually react by asking if it is going to be as cheesy/preachy/low budget as the last Christian movie I dragged them to. From what I have read on the internet, House does not seem to be your typical "cheesy and preachy" Christian movie. It is the story of four souls entering their own Hell, mistaking their one hope of rescue as something evil, and in the end, they must choose life or death. With an R rating, this movie has no foul language, no sexual scenes, and very little blood, but received the rating do to the disturbing themes.. ... and how could a movie about Hell not be disturbing?

The Catholic Vote

I, like so many other young adults, will be voting for the first time this year. With so many important issues at stake, it is vital for all of us to do our research. A great website that will help you is catholicvote.com. One of my friends, who just happens to be Mormon, sent me the link to this site, so please do not think that it only pertains to Catholics. In the election, I will be voting for McCain-Palin. I based this decision, first and foremost, on the fact that they are both pro-life, with Palin chosing to raise, rather than abort, her down syndrome infant. Obama is very pro-choice. "It’s important for Americans to know exactly where Barack Obama stands on abortion, because abortion is more than just a "Catholic issue." It's one of the fundamental issues Americans should be most concerned about.
The United States was founded on the rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” and Americans have spent the two centuries since trying to live up to those founding principles. First came disagreements over the pursuit of happiness — religious and economic liberty. Then, over slavery. Today’s big battle is over the most important right: the right to life.
Obama’s votes and official positions deny the right to life to three categories of human beings: the unborn, the “accidentally” born and, at least in one case, the adult “unfit.” Let’s look at each.
The Unborn
Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr., understood how the right to life is fundamental. “I and my deceased children are victims of abortion,” she has said. “The Roe v. Wade decision has adversely affected the lives of my entire family. I pray often for deliverance from the pain caused by my decision to abort my baby.”
Obama's position on the question rejects her view.
When the Supreme Court, citing experiences like King’s, decided that a federal ban on partial-birth abortion would not violate the Constitution, Obama said he “strongly disagreed” with the court. Partial-birth abortion is the barbaric procedure in which a doctor kills a child with scissors while the child is being born. Obama vows to keep the practice legal.
Obama once described why he thinks abortion should be legal through all nine months of a woman’s pregnancy.
“Whenever we define a pre-viable fetus as a person that is protected by the Equal Protection Clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we’re really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a child, a 9-month old child that was delivered to term,” he said. “That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place.”
How could Obama be so opposed to the right to life? He may have let slip one reason at a March Town Hall meeting in Pennsylvania.
“Look, I’ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old,” Obama said. “If they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”
He thinks “unwanted” children, by their very existence, are an unacceptable imposition.
‘Accidental’ Infants
This brings us to the next category of human being Obama says has no intrinsic right to life: Babies born “accidentally” while a doctor attempts to kill them by abortion.
This is a necessary consequence of Obama’s embrace of abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Most of us know parents who have cared for preemies — premature babies, born too soon. With the abortion industry’s wide-scale attempts to kill American premies and nearly due children, some will be born alive accidentally.
Whistleblower Jill Stanek, a Chicago nurse, described the practice of killing babies in what is now known as “live-birth abortion.” Illinois tried to stop the practice. But in 2002, as state legislator there, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies who were “accidentally” born alive during attempts to abort them.
“I could not bear the thought of this suffering child dying alone in a soiled utility room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived,” Stanek told the U.S. Congress, describing one such case. “He was too weak to move very much, expending any energy he had trying to breathe. Toward the end he was so quiet that I couldn’t tell if he was still alive unless I held him up to the light to see if his heart was still beating through his chest wall.”
After Stanek’s testimony even N.Y. Democrat Jerrold Nadler, who says he is “as pro-choice as anybody on earth” supported and spoke in favor of the bill.
But for the abortion industry and Obama, opposing the right to life has meant uncompromising dedication to a counter-principle. For Obama, protecting the unstated principle “unwanted children do not have the right to life” is the only way abortion can remain legal. That has led him to exclude another category of human being from the right to life: the unfit.
Terri Schiavo
In a recent debate, Obama said the vote he most regrets was his vote to save Terri Schiavo’s life. Her husband, Michael, wanted Terri dead, even though she was alert and responsive to nurses and family members. He had a new child with a new woman, and he wanted Terri dead.
When a judge granted his request, Congress and President Bush attempted to intervene to save her life, and not just to save her life, but to stop the dangerous precedent. They failed. Now Obama says they shouldn’t have tried.
Thus, he started by rejecting the right to life of unwanted children and now rejects the right to life of an unwanted woman.
Obama not only opposes the right to life, his opposition is his highest priority. “The first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act,” he told Planned Parenthood last July. That would make America more friendly to the abortion industry than any other country in the world.
America's Creed
The idea that there is a creed at the heart of America was best expressed by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address. “Four score and seven years ago,” he said, “our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” He called the Civil War a test as to whether “any nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.”
America is still undergoing that test.
But, like a reverse Lincoln, a new man from Illinois seeks the presidency, one who is engaged in a battle against the proposition that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with the right to life."

Fireproof: Support Christian Movies

Starring Kirk Cameron, Fireproof was produced by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. Sherwood Church makes Christian movies in order to bring Jesus to the world; making movies is their ministry. Their most known movie, Facing the Giants, raked in about 10 million dollars at the box office two years ago when it first opened. Fireproof is their third and newest movie. Starting with a $500,000 budget and a volunteer cast, the movie is about a firefighter named Caleb, played by Cameron, whose mantra is "Never leave your partner behind." Though Caleb never leaves his partner behind at work, he plans to do just that with his wife and divorce her. As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment: "The Love Dare." Doubtful that it would work, Caleb agrees to the idea more for his father's sake. When he finds out that "the Love Dare" has religious ties, his interest becomes even more dampened. While trying to stay true to his promise, Caleb becomes frustrated time and again when his wife continues to reject his efforts to love her. He finally asks his father, "How am I supposed to show love to somebody who constantly rejects me?" His father explains to him that this is the love that Christ shows us. Although Christ gave His life for us, we continue to reject him, looking to the world to fill our God-shaped hole. With this realization of what love means, Caleb makes a life-changing commitment to love God and his wife.

Though the movie begins with amateurish acting and seems a little hokey, it does get better. All around it is a great Christian movie. It has a few scenes that will leave you laughing hysterically, “Tomato Juice!!!”, and it brings to light modern issues of today, such as internet pornography. As Christians, we all need to go and support this movie and Sherwood Baptist Church so that they continue to make God-centered movies, in a world that is anything but God-centered.

With divorce rates so high, this movie can do nothing but help save American marriages by showing that with God, anything is possible, including fixing a marriage that may seem, through our flawed, human eyes, to be already lost. As a matter of fact, it has saved marriages. Even if you are a teenager, you need to see this movie. It will show you that marriages aren’t as easy as Hollywood makes us think they are. The fact is, and you can ask any married person, that being married isn’t easy. As a matter of fact, marriage is probably more hard than it will ever be easy, but that does not mean we should just give up on marriage all together. It can be a beautiful thing when both people die to their own desires and live for the other person, basing their marriage on God.

Wow, this past week and a half has been really hectic! I am sorry that I have not been posting as much. Balancing full-time hours as a college student with a part-time job has proven to be quite a hard task to do, and I can't image how students who hold full-time jobs do it.

This morning I received an e-mail from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. For those of you who do not know what that is, it is an animal sanctuary in Angel Canyon, a 33,000-acre ranch, located in Kanab, Utah. In the late 1970's, a group of friends got together to form a grass roots campaign to place "unadoptable" animals into loving homes. A few years later they raised enough money to build a sanctuary and chose the Utah mountains to build their shelter. Music - Dizmas

This past June I was given the amazing opportunity to meet the members of Dizmas, a Christian pop/rock band. DIZMAS, their third CD, had just been released and their concert tour for the new album was just beginning. A local radio station was interviewing the band and had invited my sisters and I to sit in. At that time, I had no idea the type of music they played, let alone who these guys were. The morning before meeting them I was extremely nervous. Though I had previously met a few music artists, I had never really hung out with anyone in that industry and expected them to be on a totally different level than I was. My worries were soon laid to rest after meeting the lead singer Zac, guitarist and vocalist, Josh, drummer, Clay, guitarist Jon, bassist Nick, their manager, Joey, and Edwin, a roadie. All of them were so easy going and friendly. During the interview with the DJ, they would joke around with each other, showing how comfortable they were with each other, in turn making me more comfortable. Though they have a fun side, they also have a serious side. While Dizmas was off air, a listener called in. He was in a local band and was struggling with separating his music from his ministry and asked Zac how he managed to separate his ministry and music. I can’t remember word for word how Zac answered the question, but I remember being left in awe at his answer. Zac answered by saying just as we should not only act like Christians in Church but in every act we do, your Christian ministry should be intertwined with your music. Though it seems like a simple answer, it hit home for me. I realized that I wasn’t living the Christian life every day; if anything I was avoiding devoting my life 100% to Christi out of fear. I thought about this during the rest of the interview, and then saw more clearly that these men were living just as they preached, just as I should be living. After the interview, my sisters and I took a few pictures with Dizmas and got a copy of their new CD.

That night, Dizmas was putting on a concert at a local Church and I wanted to know their lyrics frontwards and backwards, so I ended up listening to the CD all day. As I listened, I realized (ready for another simile?) that just as the members of Dizmas are so fun and Christ-centered, so is their music. The guitar riffs on “Play It Safe” are pretty awesome, while the lyrics yearn for us to stop, “playing it safe” and encourages to, “fall in love with the honest conviction,” or more plainly, to have faith in God without needing proof or evidence. “Redemption, Passion, Glory,” in my eyes, is Dizmas’ rock version of a worship song. Through this song, Dizmas reflects on how great a sacrifice Jesus’ death for us was and how amazing it is that He chooses to live in us; “This is redemption,/ that you would die for me/ And this is salvation,/ that you would live in me.” I could continue to go on about the rest of the album with nothing but high praises, but I think you understand how awesome I think this band is already! : ]

To sum things up, the concert that night was incredible and will be an experience I, and the friends I invited, will never forget. Zac really worked the crowd, seamlessly combining sharing Christ with others, the music and giving a great performance. I could also tell, from how the rest of the band performed, that they were just as passionate about the music as Zac was. Plus, watching Josh sing his parts of the lyrics, which he did so animatedly, was really fun to watch. After the show, Dizmas stayed to talk with their fans, which I thought was really nice and a great way to intimately share Christ with others.

After experiencing what is Dizmas, I can honestly say, without a doubt in my mind, that Dizmas is my favorite band. Not only is their music great, but the five Christians that make up the band inspired me in that they are living proof as to what it means to live Christ-centered lives. I encourage any of you who are reading this, if by God’s grace there are actual people reading this, to visit Dizmas’s myspace. You can order their CD from their merch site or buy it off iTunes. Don’t forget to buy one for a friend! … and if you ever get the chance to go to a Dizmas concert, NEVER pass it up!

Dizmas Bio - Dizmas, the name some believe belonged to the good thief that was crucified with Jesus, was started by brothers Zach and Josh Zegan, and friends Nick and Clay while they were attending high school together in 1998. A few years later, Jon, from Pennsylvania, joined the band as a guitarist. Dizmas’ first album, On a Search in America, was released in June of 2005 and had an indie/screamo sound. The first track on the CD, “Revolution”, was aired during a May CSI: NY episode entitled Stealing Home. Their sophmore album, Tension, came out in May of 2007 with songs “Shake It Off” being used by ESPN and “Play It Safe” reaching #1 on the Radio & Records Christian Rock National Airplay chart by Aug 03, 2007. Their latest self-entitled CD, DIZMAS, was released April of 2008. While it features four new songs, the album's other six songs are from their older albums which have been revamped for a more melodic pop/modern rock feel due to their recent signing with Forefront Records.

This may be out of place but...

I just thought it was a great story. These monks prayed for a quarter of a century, 25 years, for God to help them financially and boy did He ever provide for their patience. This video was a reminder to me that I need to learn to rely more on God's timing than on my own. Doesn't it make you wonder what a little patience in your own life could do?

What You Can Expect...

Okay, so I know that I already wrote about one of the things that influenced me to make this blog, just look at About This Blog, but other things inspired me, such as a band called Dizmas (who my next post will be about). However, the things that influenced me and what I want this blog to be are two different things. First and foremost, I just want to share Christ with others and let teens know that there are a lot of Christian alternatives to mainstream music than just what the secular world lets us know about. For instance, I have been listening to secular music my whole life. Yeah, I did know about some of the Christian adult alternative/worship artists, but I wanted something to rock out to, something to dance to... that’s not to say that I have anything against worship music, I just wanted to be able to worship with some good rock music too! :] It took God using certain people in my life to introduce me to Christian rock, and even then I really had to search the internet to find some of these bands. Whether you like screamo, indie, rap, rock, hip-hop, pop, or a combination of these genres, there are plenty of Christian alternatives to secular music and it actually sounds good!! It’s music that will uplift your spirit, keep your focus on God and his Son, rather than on the taste of some girls cherry chap stick.

I plan to put on this blog reviews and information on Christian bands, whether they have just started out or have been around the track a few times, and updates on concert tours that will be coming to the West coast, though I’ll include things for Central and East U.S. too. So if you have been in a band for a few years and need some publicity, comment me. If you just started a band and need to get a fan base, comment me. If you have any suggestions, comment me. Basically, just comment me. ;]

Secondly, though this blog was mainly to be about Christian bands and tour updates, I am also going to include information about Christian clothing, books, good charitable organizations to volunteer at, and maybe sometime in the distant future apologetics. I just want this blog to be overflowing with resources to help us live with Jesus in the crosshairs of our life.

Together, let’s start a revolution for Christ. We all need to live up to God’s request of us to, “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” I want my generation, who so many people look down upon, to prove the world wrong. Let’s show them that we are a generation of change. Start today, don’t wait till your middle-aged with kids - teenagers can accomplish more things than people give us credit for. Instead of the world telling us how we should be living, let’s stand up and show them how to live by Jesus’ standards. Live morally, make the right decisions, help the poor, give back to the community, just introduce God to the world. Yeah, it is going to be hard. You will be rejected by friends, people will judge you, but it will be so worthwhile for you will be doing it for the greatest of causes. If the idea of actually taking that step scares you, share you fears with Jesus and just remember that with Him, all things are possible.

Please don’t think that I am perfect, because you will just be fooling yourself. I am a sinner, I fully admit it. I complain about my wonderful job, I say hurtful things to caring people, I don't show respect where respect is due, the list could go on and on, but through Christ's sacrifice I have salvation. I don’t know all of the answers, heck, on my own I would probably fail the test of life, but I know the One who has all the answers; God.
